At OCU, we pride ourselves on being more than just a financial institution. We are a close-knit community that values compassion, support, and giving back. Our commitment to making a positive impact extends beyond financial services, as we actively support various initiatives that our staff are involved in. Today, we are excited to share one such initiative that holds a special place in our hearts: The Tour de Cure.
The Tour de Cure: An Event with Purpose
The Tour de Cure is B.C.’s largest cycling fundraiser “powering leading cancer care innovation across the province through the BC Cancer Foundation.” The event unites people from all walks of life, providing them with an opportunity to challenge themselves physically while making a meaningful difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
Our Staff’s Involvement
We are immensely proud of one of our own staff members who has taken up the noble cause of participating in the Tour de Cure. Russell Comerford, with his unwavering dedication and spirit, is taking on the challenging ride to support the BC Cancer Foundation’s vital work. This will be Russell’s 6th Tour de Cure – to date he has raised a whopping $20,000.
Russell talked about what motivates him to ride: “my mother died of cancer when she was just 52. When I heard about this ride I thought, this is something I can do that will bring real and meaningful hope to cancer patients not just here in BC or Canada, but worldwide. If my mother were diagnosed today, I believe she would have survived. That is how much of an impact this ride and the BC Cancer Foundation’s research have. It has proven to be the difference between life and death.”
Listen: Russell Comerford talks to Brock Jackson at Bounce Radio about his involvement in the Tour de Cure.
Supporting the Cause
Here’s how you can join us in supporting the Tour de Cure and the BC Cancer Foundation:
- Attend Our BBQ Event on August 18th from 11am – 1pm: Stop by OCU in Osoyoos for a BBQ fundraiser. It will be a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, enjoy delicious food, and raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the cause.
- Donate Online: For those who cannot make it to the BBQ or simply prefer an online option, you can contribute directly to Russell’s efforts here: https://tourdecure.ca/fundraiser/russell2023
Join us in supporting The Tour de Cure and help us in the fight against cancer. Whether you attend our upcoming BBQ event or make a direct donation online, your contribution will go a long way in supporting critical research and care for cancer patients. Together, we can bring hope, strength, and healing to those facing the challenges of cancer. Let’s make a meaningful impact—one pedal stroke at a time.
