To recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, OCU is teaming up with Desert Sun Counselling & Resource Centre’s Better at Home program to bring awareness to the issue of elder abuse.
The Better at Home program helps seniors live independently, connecting them with volunteers who help with things like grocery shopping, housekeeping and connecting them to community resources. The program forges connections and bringing seniors out of isolation, reducing the risk of elder abuse.
You can support the program by stopping by our branch on Main Street for a fundraiser BBQ!
WHEN: Thursday, June 15th, from 11AM – 1PM
WHERE: In front of the Osoyoos Credit Union on Main Street
COST: $5 for a burger, bottle of water and a bag of chips
Re-affirming Our Commitment
At OCU, we prioritize the protection of our elderly members and have taken concrete steps to address elder abuse. One of these steps is ensuring that all our staff receive up-to-date training on how to detect and respond to elder abuse. We believe that knowledge is power, and by equipping our team with the necessary tools, we can be proactive in identifying and addressing any signs of abuse or mistreatment.
On this important day, let us stand together in advocating for the rights and protection of our elderly population. We encourage everyone to stay vigilant, report any suspected cases of elder abuse, and support our collective efforts to ensure that every senior citizen is treated with dignity and respect.
