OCU Bursary/Scholarship Application

Osoyoos Credit Union (OCU) has a long standing history of helping aspiring youth of our local communities to further their education by providing Bursary and Scholarships.

To apply please see the eligibility and evaluation requirements below.

Eligibility Requirements
  1. Applicant, parent(s), or legal guardian must be an active member of OCU.
  2. The applicant must be a full-time Grade 12 student during the 2023-2024 academic school year.
  3. The applicant must be planning to attend a recognized University or College for the 2024-2025 school year.
Evaluation Components
  1. Bursary or Scholarships will be awarded to individuals who encompass a well-rounded character. We are looking for involvement in the community, taking initiative in leadership roles and your overall performance as a student.
  2. Consideration will be given to the following criteria:
    • Community involvement
    • Extra-curricular activities
    • Career goals
    • Leadership roles
    • Work accomplishments while attending high school (if applicable)
Application Process
  1. Applications are available here or can be picked up at the Osoyoos Credit Union. Completed applications can be mailed, emailed or dropped off at the branch. Contact info is at the bottom of the application form.
  2. Only one application per person will be accepted.
  3. All completed applications must include the following documentation in order to be eligible:
    • Proof of acceptance to a recognized university or college.
    • A transcript of marks from the educational institution the applicant is currently attending.

Learning Grant Program

About the Program

In support of our credit union community, Valeyo is proud to sponsor the Learning Grant, a program that provides up to 12 grants in the amount of $1,000 each to eligible students for full-time study at a qualifying Canadian college or university in 2021.

Grants are allocated on a provincial basis as follows: BC (2), SK (3), AB (2), MB (3), ON (2).

Eligibility Requirements

Learning Grant Program is open to any credit union member in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Applicants must be entering or within a 12-month to 4-year undergraduate or diploma program at a qualified Canadian institution in Fall 2023.

Applicants must submit all the requested documents by the given deadlines in order to be considered for a Learning Grant.

Submission Deadline

The program will open until April 24, 2023. Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm PT

How do students apply?

Students will apply via application accessed online at valeyo.com/learning_grant/

Selection Process

A Selection Committee consisting of up to four volunteer credit union employees will be established in each province in which grants will be made. Committee membership is voluntary and changes on a yearly basis. A new committee is struck each year, with applications being reviewed weekly or as needed. One provincial Account Executive will provide support to the Committee as required.

How are recipients chosen?

Each committee will evaluate applicants from their province against a set list of criteria. See Evaluation Tool document.

How are recipients informed?

All recipients will be informed of their status via email by the program administrator once the Selection Committee has made its decision. The Account Executive and credit union key contact will be copied on communications to the winners.
